Jimmy Fallon Goes ‘All In’ For Broadway Debut

Late night TV star and former SNL regular Jimmy Fallon made his Broadway debut last night, even if it won’t be particularly a long-running gig. Fallon will do six performances of All In: Comedy About Love, Simon Rich‘s episodic tales of love that features an ever-evolving cast week after week.

The late-night talk show took his spot last night alongside Lin-Manuel Miranda, Aidy Bryant, Fallon and Nick Kroll; that group performs, sans Miranda, wrap up on February 2. (Miranda hangs around until February 16).

Proving one of the more popular, and unusual, productions of the winter Broadway season, All In began performances at Broadway’s Hudson Theatre on December 11, with a revolving cast that has included John Mulaney, Fred Armisen, Renée Elise Goldsberry and Richard Kind.

Other performances taking their turns before the production closes February 16 have been Chloe Fineman and Andrew Rannells, with Nick Kroll, David Cross, Annaleigh Ashford, Tim Meadows, and Hank Azaria joining in the fun at various points.

The play, directed by Alex Timbers, features Rich’s original stories about dating, heartbreak, marriage and more, performed in a manner that combines story-telling and acting. SNL‘s Lorne Michaels is among its producers.

In between stories, The Bengsons  (Abigail and Shaun Bengson) perform songs from the band The Magnetic Fields.

Fallon has flirted with the idea of a Broadway bow in the past, once saying that he and Cameron Crowe had worked out an appearance in Crowe’s Almost Famous in which Fallon would reprise the role he originated in the movie version. Nothing ever came of that, but All In seems to be just the ticket, at least for a week or so.
