EXCLUSIVE: John Mulaney is getting ready to launch his live variety talk show at Netflix.
The comedian is set to kick off his show – the follow-up to his successful and beautifully chaotic Everybody’s in LA series – on March 12. Everybody Live with John Mulaney will run for 12 weeks.
Deadline understands that Mulaney received a two-season order from the streamer, which greenlit the show last year. The move means that unless something goes horribly wrong, the Baby J comedian will be back for a second run of the live show.
We also hear that Ashley Edens, who was co-showrunner of Everybody’s in LA, will serve as exec producer of the show alongside Mulaney. Edens recently served as showrunner for Fox’s The Real Full Monty and has exec produced specials such as Little Big Town’s Christmas at the Opry, Dick Van Dyke’s 98 Years of Magic and Harry Potter 20th Anniversary: Return to Hogwarts.

The show will be produced by Mulaney’s Multiple Camera Productions.
Mulaney spoke about the show at the Next on Netflix event yesterday at the Egyptian Theater.
“Out of all the DVD mail order business that pivoted, I think Netflix is in the top one or two. Redbox actually offered me more money to do a show but I told them to stick it,” he joked.
Everbody’s in LA, which aired around the Netflix is a Joke festival in May 2024, featured a slew of comedians including Jerry Seinfeld, Jon Stewart, Sarah Silverman, Pete Davidson, David Letterman, Luenell and Nikki Glaser.
“We had a hypnotist, we had an expert on coyotes in Los Angeles, we had a palm tree expert, we had an earthquake expert. We covered most all natural disasters that hit California, except for one,” he added. “It was one of those shows that neither Netflix nor I really needed to do. I never wanted to host a talk show, and they were getting out of the talk show game so it was the perfect moment.”
Richard Kind, who served as the show’s announcer and sidekick, will be back for the new show.
“We will be live globally with no delay. We will never be relevant. We will never be your source of news. We will always be reckless. Netflix will always provide us with data that we will ignore. It’s the one place where you can see Arnold Schwarzenegger sitting next to Nikki Glaser sitting next to a family therapist with music by Mannequin Pussy. That’s just an idea, we don’t know if we can lock in Mannequin Pussy,” he joked. “Not since Harry and Megan has Netflix given more money to someone without a specific plan.”
Netflix has been increasingly moving into the live arena. Kicking off the strategy in March 2023 with Chris Rock’s Selective Outrage comedy special, the streamer did a live Love Is Blind reunion show before moving into sports and sports-related programming with The Netflix Cup, The Netflix Slam, the Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson boxing match, two NFL games over Christmas and weekly WWE Raw.
