Neon’s Anora and Amazon MGM Studios’ Nickel Boys, both nominated in this year’s Best Picture Oscar race, and the year’s biggest box office hit Inside Out 2 from Disney/Pixar are among the films set to take part in Deadline’s Contenders Film: The Nominees awards showcase on February 8 beginning at 9 a.m. PT.
A total of seven films will be spotlighted at the event, our annual virtual panel discussion series featuring a cross-section of Oscar-nominated movies. Participating panelists will be announced soon.
Anora, which started its awards-season journey by winning the Palme d’Or at Cannes, and Nickel Boys, which debuted later in the fall at Telluride, will be joined this year at Contenders by a pair of Animated Feature nominees in Disney/Pixar’s Inside Out 2 and IFC Films’ Memoir of a Snail; National Geographic Documentary Films’ Documentary Feature nominee Sugarcane; and a pair of Live Action Short Film finalists in Oak Motion Pictures’ I’m Not a Robot and Kindred Films’ The Last Ranger.
Anora and Nickel Boys are joined in this year’s Oscar Best Picture race by The Brutalist, A Complete Unknown, Conclave, Dune: Part Two, Emilia Pérez, I’m Still Here, The Substance and Wicked.
Inside Out 2, which became 2024’s highest-grossing film and the highest-grossing animated film of all time at the worldwide box office, and Memoir of a Snail, which kicked off it campaign with a Best Picture win at Annecy, are joined in the Oscar Animated Feature race by double nominee Flow, Wallace & Gromit: Vengeance Most Fowl and The Wild Robot.
Nat Geo’s Sugarcane is competing in the Oscar Documentary Feature category with Black Box Diaries, No Other Land, Porcelain War and Soundtrack to a Coup d’Etat, while I’m Not a Robot and The Last Ranger are in a shorts category that also includes A Lien, Anuja and The Man Who Could Not Remain Silent.
