With the Academy Awards a month away, much-nominated A Complete Unknown and The Brutalist are holding in the top ten. All We Imagine As Light by Indian director Payal Kapadia and I’m Still Here by Brazil’s Walter Salles crossed the $1 million mark.
It’s a quiet period for indie openings.
New this weekend: No Other Land by a collective of Palestinian and Israeli filmmakers and activists chronicles the Israeli military’s incremental expulsion of the West Bank community of Masafer Yatta — home to 20 ancient Palestinian villages. It has swept most major prizes since premiering at the Berlin Film Festival, where it Won Best Documentary and the Audience Award. Producers are self-distributing with Cinetic and mTuckman Media, opening in an additional ten markets next weekend including Los Angeles and expanding nationwide throughout February.
Well Go USA is estimating $1.3 million for Creation of the Gods II: Demon Force on 200 screens. That includes $451.9k from Imax previews.
Briarcliff Entertainment is projecting a $725k weekend for Valiant One at 1,275 locations.
Bleecker Street’s Love Me opened to a gross of $204k on 527 screens.
Holdovers: Timothee Chalamet-starring Bob Dylan biopic A Complete Unknown by James Mangold is holding at no.8 with a $2.2 million weekend on 1,515 screens. The film from Searchlight Pictures now stands at $66.7 million in week 8.
It’s followed by A24’s The Brutalist by Brady Corbet at no. 9 with $1.87 million in week 7 on 1,618 screens (up by about 500) for a cume of $12 million.
Steven Soderberg’s Presence from Neon is seeing a gross of $1.34 million this weekend on 1,739 screens for a cume of $5.9 million in week 2.
I’m Still Here from Sony Pictures Classics is looking at $547.6k on 93 screens — in a big expansion from 17 last week. That’s a cume of $1.06 million in week 3 for the Walter Salles’ film starring Oscar-nominated Fernanda Torres.
A24’s Babygirl starring Nicole Kidman is grossing $330.8k on 308 screens for a cume of $27.7 million.
Bleecker Street’s Hard Truths by Mike Leigh will see $35.9k in in week 4 on 53 screens for a $766.8k cume.
All We Imagine As Light from Sideshow/Janus Films, now in week 12, stands at $1.021 million after a weekend gross of $22.2k on 29 screens. The distributor’s Latvian animated and Oscar-nominated Flow by Gints Zibalodis grossed an estimated $120.2k this weekend on 161 screens for a new cume of $3.9 million.
