Gkids has acquired worldwide (excluding China) videogram and digital transactional rights to the second season of hit animated series, Arcane, created and produced by Riot Games.
The Oscar-winning animation producer and distributor, will work alongside international partners to release a full product array, including a 4K version exclusive to the home entertainment release, in 2025, with further details to be announced.
In 2024, Gkids released season one of Arcane in a sold-out limited run collector’s edition, as well as a 4K UHD SteelBook, Blu-ray SteelBook, Standard Blu-ray and on digital download-to-own.
“The Gkids team is absolutely thrilled to continue its partnership with Riot and Fortiche,” said Gkids Director of Home Entertainment Alison Kozberg.
“From the beginning, we developed our season one 4KUHD and Blu-ray editions with an eye towards eventually celebrating the whole story of Jinx, Vi, Piltover and Zaun. We couldn’t be more excited to create something really special for the arc’s momentous conclusion.”
Arcane is set in the universe of the popular video game League of Legends and is produced by its creator Riot Games with French animation studio Fortiche Production for Netflix.
The series is co-created by Christian Linke and Alex Yee, and follows the origins of iconic League champions Vi and Jinx, two sisters who find themselves on either side of the power struggle between the utopian city of Piltover and the oppressed underground city of Zaun.
Season two picks up from the catastrophic ending in season one in which Jinx’s attack on a pivotal meeting of the Council of Piltover, which could have brought peace, instead escalates the conflict with Zaun.
Arcane first debuted in November 2021. Its second and final season launched on Netflix last November to rave reviews and has since triumphed at the Annie Awards, taking home awards in all seven categories it was nominated in.
