EXCLUSIVE: As the Kansas City Chiefs head into their third consecutive Super Bowl, the leadership team of the back-to-back world champs on Monday announced the formation of a new production studio to develop original scripted and unscripted content.
The Foolish Club Studios will be devoted to telling stories that celebrate “foolish dreamers” – those pushing the limits to achieve greatness, whether on the field, at home, or in the game of life, the founders say.
“Building on the legacy of American sports pioneer and Kansas City Chiefs founder Lamar Hunt, the studio will prioritize telling unique stories that not only highlight the rich, deep history of the franchise, the characters that have defined it and its position within the Kansas City and global communities, but also stories that reflect the spirit of humility, heart, and hard work that have been part of the team’s heritage since the beginning,” according to the press release. Content will be developed for both short-form and long-form storytelling.
The name of the studio is a tribute to Hunt and his resilience in forming the American Football League, where the eight original team owners called themselves the “Foolish Club” because they were crazy enough to take on the firmly entrenched National Football League.
“Foolish Club Studios is a tribute to my father in so many ways,” said Clark Hunt, Chairman and CEO of the Kansas City Chiefs. “My father constantly pushed boundaries and inspired innovative thinking, and that is exactly the ethos we expect this new studio to embrace as we expand our ambitions in storytelling and continue to make the game more accessible to our fans.”
The endeavor follows on the success of the Hallmark Channel collaboration Holiday Touchdown: A Chiefs Love Story – the number one cable movie of 2024 – along with viral online hits like the Chief’s holiday Claymation short A Kingdom Christmas Story: Hail Merry.
Foolish Club Studios is part of the club’s on-going strategic investment in media development and growing the brand internationally. The studio will complement the club’s existing 65 Toss Power Trap (65TPT) Production group, the award-winning in-house production arm of the team which will continue to generate both short-form and long-form football and club content for the core football fan.
“We are thrilled to launch Foolish Club Studios and are excited for what this new business represents in our ability to explore amazing stories of hard work, innovation, perseverance, humility, sportsmanship, fandom, and more,” team President Mark Donovan added. “Storytelling around sports captivated Lamar, and we believe the studio will capture the heart and soul of his vision and allow us to connect with individuals around the world in new and unique ways, regardless of their fandom.”
