Ryan Murphy’s ‘Monster’ Adds Suzanna Son To Season 3

EXCLUSIVE: Ryan Murphy‘s latest installment of his Netflix Monster anthology series, has cast Suzanna Son (Red Rocket, The Idol) in a series regular role, sources tell Deadline.

Although details regarding who she will play and the Season 3 plot are under wraps, it will focus on suspected serial killer Ed Gein, to be portrayed by Charlie Hunnam. Known as the Butcher of Plainfield or the Plainfield Ghoul, Gein confessed to murdering two women in the 1950s and also allegedly made trophies out of bodies and skin of corpses he exhumed from graveyards. Gein’s story inspired the Leatherface character in Tobe Hooper’s 1974 horror classic The Texas Chainsaw Massacre.

Murphy and Ian Brennan created Monster. The original installment was No. 3 on Netflix’s Top 10 list of its most popular English-language programs.

Son is a trained pianist, dancer and vocalist who made her acting debut opposite Simon Rex in Sean Baker’s Red Rocket, which was released in theaters by A24 on December 3, 2021. Son and the cast were awarded the Ensemble Spotlight Award at the Middleburg Film Festival. Additionally, she was individually nominated in the category of Breakthrough Performer at the 31st Annual Gotham Independent Film Awards and for Best Supporting Female at the 2022 Film Independent Spirit Awards.

Upcoming, Son will star alongside India Fowler in the next installment of the Netflix franchise, Fear Street: Prom Queen, which premieres this summer.

Previously, she starred alongside Abel Tesfaye (a.k.a The Weeknd) and Lily Rose-Deep in HBO’s The Idol. She performed and co-wrote three original songs for the soundtrack for the series including “Crocodile Tears,” “False Idols” and “Family.” She joined The Weeknd on his world tour in Stockholm, marking her live on-stage debut as a musician.

Son is repped by ColorCreative, IAG and Jackoway et al.
