Sigourney Weaver’s West End Show ‘The Tempest’ Halted By Just Stop Oil

Sigourney Weaver‘s West End production of The Tempest was disrupted by climate crisis protesters on Monday night.

Just Stop Oil activists took to the stage and unfurled a sign saying “Over 1.5 Degrees is a Global Shipwreck” in the group’s signature orange.

The play, performed at London’s Theatre Royal Drury Lane, was halted and Weaver was escorted from the stage.

“We’ll have to stop the show ladies and gentlemen, sorry,” an organizer told the audience. The protest was met with boos from those watching the Shakespeare production.

One of the protesters, Hayley Walsh, a lecturer from Nottingham, said she was “scared” for her children: “I can’t sleepwalk them into a future of food shortages, life-threatening storms and wars for resources.”

Weaver is making her West End stage debut as storm-creating sorcerer Prospero in The Tempest. The play is directed by Jamie Lloyd.
