Saturday Night Live brought back a recent viral sketch for its 50th anniversary special.
Following up on the iconic Bridesmaid Speech sketch from November, Domingo was back on the SNL stage at yet another one of Kelsey and Matt’s big life events.
Actually, for some reason, the happy couple was getting married yet again, and instead of just the bridesmaids getting their moment in the spotlight, all the bride and groom’s friends and family took a moment to wish them well.
Sabrina Carpenter played the bride’s childhood best friend, Sophie, who, along with the rest of the bridesmaids performed a rousing rendition of “Defying Gravity” from Wicked, changing the lyrics to the likes of, “she swears she’s gonna try monogamy / She’s finally learned what is monogamy, and we will hold her down.”
Carpenter even completed the performance with a skillfully off key Elphaba-inspired riff.
That wasn’t all though, as Bowen Yang joined Lonely Island as three Scotts and a Dale — the groomsmen who sang about their own staycation with Matt to the tune of “Espresso,” revealing that Kelsey isn’t the only one who may have had a clandestine fling during the pre-wedding festivities (as established in that initial sketch).
“The groomsmen had a local staycation, cause we’ve been hit hard by inflation. And we knew Matt needs a break from Kelsey,” the sang, adding that Matt had a fling with someone named Ronaldo, played by Pedro Pascal.
Turns out, they are brothers. And their third sibling, Santiago (played by Bad Bunny), also has a connection to the wedding party.
This was the third in a series of sketches that have become recent hits for SNL. The first was a bridesmaid speech, featuring host Ariana Grande, and the second was a baby shower speech with host Charli XCX. Both included Marcello Hernández as Domingo, whose character became so huge that he even stole the show at one of Carpenter’s shows on her Short ‘N Sweet tour, after that first sketch spoofed her song, “Espresso.”
