Spencer Pratt, Heidi Montag Sue City Of L.A., DWP Over Water Issues During Fires

Spencer Pratt and Heidi Montag are suing the City of Los Angeles and its Department of Water and Power after losing their home in the Palisades Fire last week. The veteran reality stars are alleging failures that make it hard for firefighters to battle in the rapidly moving flames.

“The Palisades Fire was an inescapable and unavoidable consequence of the egregious failure of the water supply system servicing areas in and around Pacific Palisades, including having an empty water reservoir,” according to the couple’s attorney, Peter McNulty. “This failure was a substantial factor in causing my clients and others to suffer enormous losses.

Filed Wednesday in Los Angeles Superior Court, the couple’s inverse-condemnation suit states that the Santa Ynez Reservoir, which services devastated Pacific Palisades, was offline before the fire started on January 7, hampering the ability of firefighters to deal with the flames. The filing alleges that given the reservoir’s condition, hydrants in the Palisades failed after three tanks — each holding 1 million gallons of water — went dry within a span of 12 hours.

The couple married in 2008 and gained famed as part of the cast of MTV’s 2006-10 unscripted hit The Hills. Montag starred for all six seasons, and Pratt recurred on all but the first season and became a series regular on the final Season 6. They have appeared on a number of reality shows since then, including Celebrity Big Brother UK, Marriage Boot Camp and starring turns on The Hills: New Beginnings.

Pratt posted photos on social media that were taken as their home burned:
