The Complete Tracklist
Timeless unfolds like a narrative, taking listeners from the dawn of his career to the twilight of his life.
Here’s a deeper dive into the history of each track on the album:
1. I Am You (4:44)
A rare rock track from the very beginning of his journey, “I Am You” is a home recording made in late 1978 at his cozy France Avenue home studio in Edina, Minnesota. It captures the raw spirit of a young artist just starting to find his voice.
2. Tick Tick Bang (3:13)
Originally recorded during a vibrant summer session in 1981 alongside his major hit Controversy, the original rhythm was so captivating that Prince re-recorded it in 1989 at Paisley Park. It almost made it onto his famous Graffiti Bridge project.
3. Heaven (4:29)
This enchanting track was laid down on a warm May night in 1985 at Sunset Sound in Hollywood. Prince initially intended it for an ambitious film project titled The Dawn, which ultimately never materialized, leaving this song hidden away.
4. I Wonder (4:11)
This track, a delightful surprise, was recorded in August 1989 at Paisley Park Studios. Its intended home is unknown; Prince simply captured the magic in the moment, leaving it for fans to discover later.
5. With This Tear – Prince
Originally written for pop sensation Céline Dion, this poignant track found its way to Prince’s discography. The estate released his solo version digitally on April 20, 2026, and now it enjoys a permanent spot on this album.
6. Stone – Prince
The dynamic new single! Originally drafted by Sandra St. Victor, Tom Hammer, and Jules Van Veen under the working title “Nothing Left To Give,” it was sent to Prince in spring 1995. He transformed the song with his signature funk style and turned it into a true masterpiece.
7. Calabama (3:31)
This lively, joyful track was meant to be the title song for an unreleased album Prince was developing just before his triumphant comeback with Musicology. It features a catchy hook where Prince enthusiastically encourages, “All the pretty ladies clap your hands!” and even transitions into a rap that inspired his popular live tour anthems.
8. The Guilty Ones (4:15)
Recorded on October 16, 2007, at Paisley Park, this modern track carries a powerful message. Prince valued its lyrics so much he included them in his celebrated 21 Nights photo book in 2008. However, the song itself remained undiscovered until after his passing.
9. Bestest Friend (4:38)
The ultimate enigma of the album, this previously unheard outtake had never surfaced on any bootleg or tracklist. It’s a delightful new surprise for even Prince’s most devoted fans.
10. How Come You Don’t Call Me Anymore? (Live) (5:54)
An exquisite finale, this breathtaking live rendition features one of Prince’s most heartfelt piano ballads. Insiders believe it was recorded during his intimate Piano & Microphone tour shortly before his untimely passing—just Prince, a piano, and a stadium filled with adoration.
Prince dedicated his life to crafting a musical legacy, and these tracks reveal that his imagination knew no limitations. From a nervous youth recording in his home in 1978 to a superstar commanding the stage, he had an uncanny ability to captivate the world.
