Sometimes even the best of us could use a friendly doppelganger – or three or four – to help with all the promises we must keep, and this week those promises come from Timothée Chalamet, who is both hosting and serving as musical guest for this week’s NBC’s Saturday Night Live.
Playing off the recent craze for Chalamet look-a-like contests springing up here and there, this week’s SNL promo has the A Complete Unknown star recruiting some of the kinda-sorta lookalikes to help with his duties. One lucky faux-Timmy gets to appear on the Tonight Show, much to the apparent concern of host Jimmy Fallon.
“I’ve never done this before,” Chalamet says at the start of the promo, chatting with his stand-ins (a Wonka, a Dylan, a fashionista, and someone who’s maybe supposed to be Timmy in streetwear.) “You know, I’m having to be SNL host and musical guest in the same week, so it’s a lot of work and I want to focus on the songs.”
Chalamet is likely to perform at least a Dylan song or two, given his singing for the Bob role in A Complete Unknown.
In the clip, Chalamet says he especially needs help on “stuff like meeting with the writers or working on my monologue.”
“And of course,” he continues, “you gotta listen to Mikey Day brag about hosting Is It Cake?“
When one imposter invades Tonight to a flustered Fallon, the real Chalamet watches on a monitor, telling his crew, “He’s good. He’s really good. Yeah, you guys should learn from him.”
SNL airs Saturday at 11:30pm ET/8:30pm PT on NBC and streams live on Peacock with this weekend’s host and musical guest Timothée Chalamet.
