SPOILER ALERT! This post contains details from the Season 2 midseason return of CBS‘ Tracker.
There really is no case that Colter Shaw can’t solve, it seems.
Season 2 of Tracker returned Sunday night, picking up right where things left off in December, with Justin Hartley‘s Colter deeply invested in what happened to then-19-year-old Gina Picket.
Audiences were introduced to the cold case that’s been haunting Colter for 10 years in the Season 2 premiere, and much of the first half of the season revolved around his renewed quest to find her.
The midseason finale left things on a major cliffhanger, after Colter enlisted the help of police detective Keaton in order to find a new suspect in the case, Alex, who revealed that the person who had taken Gina goes by The Teacher, and at one point he’d been holding her hostage at a place called The Farm.
Rather than draw out this story any further, Tracker reveals Gina’s fate in the midseason return.
With this new information from Alex, Colter and Keaton pay another visit to Frank, the man they believed was involved in her disappearance all along, where, after some convincing, they’re able to get him to corroborate Alex’s story and give more details about Gina’s disappearance.
Frank says he was recruited by The Teacher as a “disciple,” meant to lure young women to The Farm for The Teacher’s pleasure. He swears he doesn’t know what happened to Gina after he picked her up from the mall after work the night she disappeared and delivered her straight to The Teacher.
With Frank’s help, Colter and Keaton locate The Farm and discover a skeleton, but it’s not Gina’s. The body belongs to a young man, who they assume may have been another of The Teacher’s disciples.
It turns out The Farm is owned by a man named Patrick Campbell, who Colter tracks down at a nursing home in the area. When Colter arrives to talk to Patrick, he discovers Patrick’s daughter and her husband, Kayla and Noah, are also paying him a visit.
He learns Patrick has dementia, and he’s lived at this nursing home for 15 years, eliminating him as a suspect in Gina’s disappearance. Kayla and Noah say they know nothing about the activity at The Farm, as they live out of state.
Colter goes back to the drawing board, pressing Frank for more information. Frank says he knows of another location where The Teacher brought his victims, so he leads Colter to an abandoned hospital on the outskirts of town. There, Colter doesn’t find Gina, but he does find a more recent victim, who he helps escape, as well as The Teacher himself.
Turns out, The Teacher is Noah, who was an anesthesiologist at the hospital before it shut down. So much for knowing nothing about the dead body at The Farm.
Noah confesses to killing Gina, which allows her older sister Camille to find some closure and finally hold a funeral for her.
Things may not have ended the way Colter wanted, but at least he’s got answers. Now, he’s off to his next case.
