Trevor Noah returned as host of the 2025 Grammy Awards for the fifth consecutive year and delivered some jokes about Donald Trump’s tariffs, attack on immigrants, and more.
During his opening monologue, the former Daily Show host also mentioned Beyoncé, Taylor Swift, Nick Cannon, and Rihanna after paying tribute to Los Angeles following the devastating wildfires.
“Welcome to music’s biggest night,” Noah said. “And when I say biggest, I mean biggest nights. What the Super Bowl is to the NFL. What Valentine’s Day is to romance. What Father’s Day is to Nick Cannon. That’s what the Grammys is to music.”
Noah explained how the Grammy winners are determined after a vote of 13,000 members of the Recording Academy and joked that voting also included “20 million illegal immigrants.”
The comedian also took a shot at the Trump administration later in the monologue, saying, “There’s been a few changes in Washington. So I’m gonna enjoy tonight because this may be my last time I get to host anything in this country.”
Beyoncé was mentioned during the opening monologue with the host, saying she was scheduled to appear and clarifying, “Well, I hope she’ll be here. I can’t make her do anything. I’m just saying. I hope, if she doesn’t show up, we’ll just edit this out. It’s not live — it is, there’s nothing I can do.”

Noah also mentioned that Beyoncé had just announced her new tour and had taken the opportunity to discuss some political happenings.
“I will say, though Beyoncé. There’s tariffs. We can’t afford a new tour, right? Maple syrup is about to be $50,” Noah joked.
Noah also noted that The Beatles made history being nominated for a song created by artificial intelligence (AI) with the host joking, “I think if they win this, this could open up a few doors for them. And who knows, through the power of AI, one day, we could even get another Rihanna album. Praise be Nvidia. You never know.”
Taylor Swift was also mentioned with Noah noting that the singer could make history and become the first artist to win Album of the Year five times, joking, “Which means she could break the record of four wins set all the way back in 2024 by Taylor Swift. I’m just gonna say Taylor, if you break Taylor’s record, you know the Swifties are gonna come for you. Don’t wanna mess with them. They’re like an army of Kendrick Lamar.”
