We Don’t Have A Final Answer Yet

The future of Heartstopper at Netflix is still uncertain, as Alice Oseman shared an update on the status of Season 4.

Kit Connor’s Nick and Joe Locke’s Charlie love story is based on a graphic novel series of five volumes, with Oseman writing a final volume to conclude the series.

The third season of the Netflix series took elements from the third volume, but the streamer has not officially commissioned a fourth season yet, something Oseman is working on.

“I’m working very hard behind the scenes to get us a renewal for Heartstopper,” she said at a Waterstones Children’s Book Festival panel. “It is still ongoing, we don’t have a final answer yet, but there are so many people behind the scenes who are working really hard to make it happen.”

She continued, “We’re feeling optimistic, we’re feeling hopeful, and hopefully we’ll be able to share some news about that sometime soon. Fingers crossed. Thank you so much for watching!”

In September 2024, Oseman said she was working on a sixth and final book for Heartstopper and wanted to release it before a potential fourth season aired.

“I’m only 50 pages in, but I know what’s going to happen, what all the dialogue is going to be, and now I’m just sitting down and drawing it, which is my favourite bit,” Oseman told The Guardian.

Oseman added, “I’m really excited about what’s going to happen towards the end of the story, but it’s also very bittersweet. I also feel it’s absolutely the right time for it to end. It’s very sad, but it’s time.”

Heartstopper‘s Season 3 premiered in October 2024.
